If you’ve ever held a Disney movie figurine made out of resin from the early to mid 00′s, chances are my friend Sergio (a master craftsman in the art world) carved the original mold to create that toy. Painting, sculpture, plaster, silicon, mold making, metal…pretty much anything you can imagine as an art piece, he can create. How lucky am I that he wanted to make a silicon and plaster cast of my whole head to build a zombie skeleton mask to wear for Halloween and our ZOMBIE REVOLUTION dance party. Thank goodness I am not claustrophobic, because as that very cold and heavy silicon (then plaster)gets applied to your entire head and all that’s left exposed are two air holes for the better part of an hour, it gets a little creepy inside there. All alone. With your thoughts. I thought I would share a couple of pictures of the process including the clay sculpture at the end (after the silicon and plaster) which once baked, will be the mold of the mold from the mold where the actual silicon mask will be made from. It’s a whole lot of layers, but you all should be used to that from me by now.
Enjoy.
